The Bulgarian School of Seattle is an intellectually vibrant and collegial community of scholars engaged in teaching and learning about the Bulgarian language, literature, history, geography, and in addition provides cultural competency training.

Established in May 2011 as a non-profit, non-partisan organization, we conduct  language classes and develop heritage language programs to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. Students in the Bulgarian School of Seattle gain a deep understanding of the cultural benefits and acquire analytical and writing skills that allow them to flourish in today’s global world whatever career path they choose.

Language study is at the foundation of all of our activities in the Bulgarian School of Seattle. The School offers cutting-edge, communication-based instruction in modern Bulgarian. We are also among the only community-based heritage language programs in the country to offer resourceful on campus and online instruction in achieving a high level of proficiency in Bulgarian language.

Combining the knowledge and expertise of the National Heritage Language Resource Center (NHLRC), the skills of our staff members and teachers, and the passion of the movement for educational change in establishing a national policy for the community-based heritage language schools, we serve as a trusted partner to the Seal of Biliteracy Committees in many districts and states, helping each and every year more and more students achieving their desired language proficiency. The Bulgarian School of Seattle is the only institution in the Unites States, recognized to administrate and deliver the ALTA language proficiency assessments to public schools and districts across the Nation. The results received from ALTA assessments are used by businesses, government and the military agencies providing to the candidates additional monetary benefits in their job placement.
