In Partnership with

THE NATIONAL HERITAGE LANGUAGE RESOURCE CENTER /NHLRC/ & THE AMERICAN COUNCIL ОN THE TEACHING OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES /ACTFL/

Thank you for your interest in this Alliance Network.

Bulgarian School of Seattle serves as a liaison between community-based heritage language programs across the Unites States and the work of the National Coalition of Community-Based Language Schools in order to:

Help to unite Bulgarian community-based heritage language (HL) schools in the U.S. to be able to lobby for shared needs.
Articulate the most pressing needs and challenges common to Bulgarian programs.
Voice the need for financial support and funding for Bulgarian community-based HL schools and programs.
Provide resources on important topics via the website, forums, briefs, and an annual conference.
Form partnerships with and learn from  representatives of different languages and schools in these arenas.
Increase the visibility of and represent the Bulgarian HL schools and programs to U.S. educators (school districts), politicians (U.S. Department of Education, State Boards of Education), and researchers.
Seek ways for HL students to receive U.S. high school credit for their language skills. Urge for recognition of students’ HL proficiency via the Seal of Biliteracy or other means.

Please take a look at our first survey that attempts to reach and document all of the community-based schools teaching Bulgarian heritage language in the United States.
